Winning the Birthday Bet: Our Beloved Belted Galloway Brangus Calves Arrival

Back at the end of November '22 we let our new Belted Galloway Bulls, Double Stuffed and Ho Ho, out with the rest of the herd. Boy did they look small next to our Brangus girls.

Darwin didn't think they were big enough to do their jobs. I told him that we should expect our first calves sometime around September '23. He didn't want to believe me. I should've bet him. It would've been an easy win. We had this discussion numerous times over the pst 9 months.

Fast forward to Sunday September 3, 2023

We spent all day playing catchup on chores. Darwin worked on replacing the boards on our equipment trailer. Luckily his brother was in town and was able to give him a hand. While they worked on that I did some long overdue work on the orchard; cleaning up storm damage and cutting back dead limbs/trees.

At the end of the day Darwin was cleaning up his stuff and I was in the house with his family. Next thing I hear is him yelling "Heather! Come here! Come here!"

Immediately my stomach knotted up. The only thing I could think of was that a cow, or one of our bulls, was in trouble so I rush outside.

As soon as I get outside Darwin excitedly squeals, "It's A BABY!!!!"

Me: "What??? Are you sure it's not 1 of the bulls?"

Darwin: "I'm sure! It's a baby beltie!! Look!!!"

Sure enough our very 1st Belted Brangus was born. I had to look back in Facebook and see when we let them in the pasture. Sure enough, they started their job as soon as they went in with the rest of the herd.

I thought to myself, "Dang, I should've made a bet with Darwin. That would've been an easy win."

Not only did we have a baby on 3 Sept (bull), we had another born on 4 Sept (bull), 5 Sept (heifer) and one on 8 Sept (bull). Help us welcome the first Belted Galloway Brangus calves to arrive.
